On 10th February 2016 Marc Clement, Dean of the School of Management, Swansea University provided a talk on “Are European Markets the answer to Welsh business woes?: Reflections on the EU for Welsh Business” The room was almost packed to capacity for this illuminating talk.
Professor Clement noted that over the coming few years the referendum on membership of the European Union will be at the heart of political discussion both in Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom. Central to this discussion was the question of whether the Welsh economy is better off working in Europe or outside of it. With this in mind Professor Marc Clement discussed how Welsh business does and can further benefit from being inside the European single market. In his talk Professor Clement drew on a variety of examples of how Swansea University has utilised European Funds to support businesses through initiatives such as the new Bay Campus, the Institute of Life Science and the Enterprise Europe Network. The talk gave those attending the opportunity to see first hand the benefits and potential drawbacks of the EU for business. The talks as chaired by Professor Russell Deacon.
